Osaka located in the Kansai Region of western Japan is known as the economic hub and the most populated city in the area. The northern district of Osaka around Osaka Station is home to the leading business headquarters and many famous corporations. Thus, the area has an urban look, sprawled with many tall buildings and network of underground walkways. However, not too far from the station are parts of the district which still has the nostalgic flavor of traditional and local culture with the common neighborhood feel.
The Osaka northern district presents a plethora of shopping and dining opportunities: the Osaka Station City offers multiple department stores; underground walkways south of the station are lined with restaurants, cafes and shops selling everything from trendy fashion to local fares; and several sheltered shopping streets which stretch for hundreds of meters.
Osaka is famous for its okonomiyaki.
The underground malls and sheltered shopping streets in the district have a character of their own: some sections have a modern look, while others have a slightly rustic feel.
